When OneKin founder Marvin Francois realized there was a bigger need for economic empowerment for disenfranchised people, he launched OneKin. It’s an e-commerce curated marketplace with retailers exclusively of color. In the crowded online retail marketplace, when Francois described what was missing from the space he “knew we needed to create a product for small businesses led by people of color.” As the Etsy for diverse sellers OneKin focuses on “sto-retail-ing”, by creating fully curated storylines around the small businesses on its e-commerce site. Additionally, the main thing that sets their platform apart is they are more of an exclusive seller, with unique items that appeals to diverse consumers. “We make sure products are produced consciously in terms of the full supply chain consideration.” OneKin is doing a very strategic rollout focusing on particular products and brands. They currently work with nearly 20 retail partners with several hundred coming down the pipeline.
